Another day of Firsts

After being crowned as National First Division Champions last week for the first time, Sliema Wanderers VC had more reasons to celebrate yesterday. We reached yet another important milestone which creates the basis for more “firsts” in the coming years.

This time the success was having 4 of our Under 14 players making their debut on the Senior teams, yesterday during the National Cup Knock Out game between Sliema Wanderers and Mellieha Tritones. Martina Corrente, Nina Curmi, Iris Petit and Emmanouela Stranomiti got their first playing time in the Senior teams in a game that Sliema Wanderers won 3-0.

While the win means that Sliema Wanderers will now meet Fleur de Lys in Tuesday’s Semi Final, having four 13 year old girls playing their first game at Senior level left everyone with an even bigger smile on their faces. All four girls played the entire game and in more than one occasion showed some good skill, confirming the good work done so far by Under 14 Coach Melissa Cheviron, now also their team mate.

We seriously can’t wait for all the girls in our Nursery to have the same opportunity in the coming years. In the meantime a big WELL DONE goes to these 4 girls on their first appearance on the Senior Team.
